What is a GPX file?
GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is an open standard used for interchange of GPS data between applications and web services on the internet. GPX files contain longitude and latitude location data (optionally elevation, time, and other information) that may include waypoints, routes, and tracks.

How to use our online GPX viewer?
Our online GPX viewer fully supports drag and drop. You can simply drop your GPX file into the drop area (the area surrounded by the dashed line with the text "Drag & Drop to View GPX File"). Alternatively you can click in that same area ("Click here and Browse GPX File to View") and manually browse your GPX file to upload. As soon as your GPX file has been uploaded it will be displayed on our map.

Is there a demo available?
A demo gpx file is just a mouse click away. Click here to view a demo GPX track including several fictive waypoints.

How to change track and route appearance?
After uploading your GPX file you have full control over your track color, track line weight and track opacity. You find these controls just below the map. However if you view our map in full screen mode the control tools are not available (until you exit full screen mode).

Why are routes shown as straight lines?
A route created in for example Mapsource of Basecamp (Garmin) will be displayed as straight lines between route points. This happens because our map does not support auto routing and so it only recognise and display lines between the route point coordinates.

Did you build this GPX online viewer just for us?
I didn't. The truth is that I build this GPX viewer mainly for myself. So I will be able to view my own hiking tracks and logs anywhere I have access to the internet. However, now this tool is online you are free to use it for yourself.

Elevation chart limitations
Elevation information is only shown as a graph when the uploaded GPX file contains elevation data. If not, the chart will not be displayed. If your GPX file contains multiple tracks only the largest track its elevation chart will be plotted and displayed.

Support for waypoints
Our online GPX viewer fully supports native Garmin Mapsource and Basecamp waypoint icons. All other waypoint symbols will be replaced by the default ('Flag, Blue') Mapsource waypoint symbol.
